bedazzling you
with their voices

Beware of peacocks
beguiling you
with their kaleidoscopes

Beware of ducks
feeding
in murky waters

Beware of roosters
pecking away
in dusty gravel

Beware of chicks
flaunting
with vogue

Beware of souls
flying away
with vanity

     Estes reino del dolor
          • Lorca

This is the kingdom of sorrow
In a sea of erotic despair:
 
The graceful sorrow
That inspires poems
Is so blue.

And the blues keep teasing me
     Joyful shadows
          Haunting me
     Hanging around
          Like an old cloak
Dragged around
     On a hot day

Why are you so blue,
     When the sky
     Is a perfect blue?

     I asked the muse
     On the street corner

But he was silent
While his saxophone moaned
